Since my son was born, he struggled to breathe through his nose and snored even as a baby. I brought it up to multiple doctors, but I was always told the same thing — that his nostrils were just small, that it was normal, and that nothing could be done because of his age. But my heart kept telling me something wasn’t right. When we met Dr. Silva, she truly listened. She ordered a 3D scan of my son’s airway, and the results showed severe blockage in his nose and throat. Although she isn’t someone who rushes to surgery, she immediately referred us to an ENT specialist. When I met with the ENT, she was actually surprised that I already had a 3D scan of my son’s airway and was very appreciative of how detailed and informed Dr. Silva’s referral was. From there we learned my son’s adenoids and tonsils were extremely enlarged and needed to be removed as soon as possible. After the surgery, I cried tears of relief the first night my son slept peacefully without waking up just to catch his breath. My son is 7 yrs old , and he has been a mouth breather since he was a baby. He snored , constantly had his mouth open, and was very prone to cavities and on top of that he was an extremely picky eater. After taking him in for an airway evaluation with Dr. Silva, I finally understood what was really going on. She explained that my son had airway issues and that there was bone crowding affecting his development. I was honestly nervous about starting treatment, especially because of his picky eating habits. I worried that getting an expander would make things even harder for him. We decided to move forward and started treatment with an upper expander. Within just a few weeks, I noticed something amazing , his appetite increased significantly. I asked my son what had changed, and he simply told me that his food tasted better. That’s when everything clicked. His underdevelopment had been affecting more than we realized, even his ability to enjoy food. Today, he is no longer a picky eater and eats everything. My daughter began her airway expansion journey at 12 years old in October 2024. Before starting treatment, she had been diagnosed with asthma at age 10 and relied heavily on her inhaler. Even basic activities like gym class would leave her winded, and using her inhaler daily had become part of her routine. After beginning expansion treatment, we started noticing gradual but meaningful changes. Her breathing improved, her endurance increased, and she began participating in more physical activities with confidence. She eventually joined Girls on the Run, something that would have been very difficult for her before treatment. Two years later, she accomplished something truly incredible—she ran her very first 5K completely inhaler-free. I actually work with Dr. Silva, but I wanted to share my experience as a parent because she truly deserves the recognition. I promise this isn’t a biased review — I don’t typically write reviews unless it truly comes from the heart. She just started my son’s expansion, and I was honestly very nervous. My son had a bad dental experience in the past at another office, and it always stuck with me. Because of that, I was worried about how he would react to starting treatment. Dr. Silva completely turned that around for him. He is now genuinely excited about his expander — and even his headgear! Dr. Silva has an incredible way of communicating with kids. She speaks to them at their level and makes them feel comfortable and confident. At the same time, she is extremely thorough with parents. She will go out of her way and take her time to make sure every parent fully understands the treatment and feels comfortable moving forward. In all my years working in dentistry, I can honestly say I’ve rarely seen a doctor be so caring, patient, and thoughtful with both children and parents.
